Learning from the Blueprint: Our Board Advisor’s Site Visit to Tuoi Hac Village in Ontario
At the Golden Age Village Foundation of BC (GAVFBC), we are committed to laying a solid groundwork to build a culturally and linguistically appropriate home for Vietnamese Canadian seniors in the Lower Mainland. To ensure we execute our vision with accuracy and long-term sustainability, our leadership regularly exchanges insights with established community leaders across Canada.
On August 24, 2026, our Board Advisor, Dr. Lan Quan, visited the site of the Golden Age Village home (Tuoi Hac Village) in Brampton, Ontario.
Seeing Progress in Motion
During her visit, Dr. Quan met with Thanh Nha, CEO of the Golden Age Village in Ontario. The Brampton development—a long-term care project designed to serve elders with culturally attuned care, familiar traditional cuisine, and language-specific programming—stands as a strong proof of concept for non-profit senior housing initiatives driven by the Vietnamese community.
Phase 1 of the Brampton project is progressing smoothly, reaching roughly 80% completion with plans to open a 160-bed long-term care facility by early 2027. Accompanied by site Tri, Dr. Quan toured the construction area in safety gear to review the structural layout and operational workflow firsthand.
Key Takeaways for Vancouver
Building tailored long-term care housing requires more than physical infrastructure—it demands strong community backing, institutional partnerships, and steady organizational perseverance. The key insights gathered from the Brampton team will help inform our approach in British Columbia:
Strong Community Leadership: Success relies on building a broad, dedicated board and collaborating closely with local cultural associations.
Persistence & Strategic Partnerships: Bringing a specialized seniors’ home to reality takes multi-year commitment, deep cross-sector connections, and sustained engagement with regional decision-makers.
Design Excellence: Tour insights provided practical lessons on aligning specialized facility design with operational safety and cultural comfort.
Building the Future Together
The progress made by the team in Ontario reinforces our conviction that a dedicated home for Vietnamese elders in Greater Vancouver is achievable. As we move forward with our development plans, we remain grateful to our supporters, partners, and advisors who help us build this foundation with care and rigor.
